Rue wants to go to a witch’s college on the east coast in Connecticut but he mother wants he to stay at home and go to the college there in Washington State. She leaves for college early to get away from her mother. She likes to run at night. On her first night’s she one shoots magic at her that has a black flame. A week later a body of a female is found. Her roommate finally shows up and later she’s killed. She learns Chrysie is her cousin and she’s a Hollow. They think she killed Chrysie like her mom killed Hollows when she was there. Her family is one of the founding families. The Presidium, the witch police, shows up and they think Rue killed Chrysie. She calls her mother who makes it so she can’t answer anymore questions until her Presidium Protector can get there. Her mother tells her she’s the heir to Hollow House and it has been sealed since she left the college twenty years ago. Rue goes to see Dr. Hollow and tells him she wants to open Hollow House. If the house opens for her then she’s the heir. A really good murder mystery.Product details

I liked it from the beginning, but it turned out to be better than I hoped. Had a kick-ass protagonist and great secondary characters. Can't wait to read the next one.
Loved this first book of this series. Not like the Inept Witch series, but just as good in a different way. Leaving home for college has never been written about in this way. Ms. Allen and her co-writing friend keep the plots rolling along in such a way that you cannot put them down until you finish the book. I can see another series addiction coming on.
I was very surprised by this book. I read voraciously and very rarely read a book that is truly different in plot. This one was, and was absolutely entrancing. Great characters, great writing. Going back for the next in the series.
This is the first time reading this author and I loved this book. The main character is Rue, a witch going away to witch college. She is going to a school her mother didn't want her to go to and almost as soon as she gets there strange things start to happen to her. When her roommate gets murdered and Rue is accused, she calls Mom for help and begins to find out all kinds of things about her mother and her mother family who were also murdered right there. This was a hard book to put down and I look forward to reading more by this author.
